Planner or No Planner? Part 2

2009-11-03

Here are more pros and cons to consider when you think about hiring a planner or coordinator:

Con - My wedding will be a breeze. I don’t need a stranger to complicate matters.

Pro – Planners don’t have to be strangers. The best thing to do is get a planner by referral. If you know someone who used the planner’s services and had a good experience, you could do the same. It’s also a good idea to research and interview more than one planner. This enables you to have a choice and know what services are available to you.

Con - How do I know they will do what I need and want?

Pro - Communication is the key. Planners can be unbiased individuals whose priority it is to make sure your day goes your way. Having them available to you can be priceless if challenges arise. Planner/coordinators are your wedding day advocates and provide a tremendous amount of support.

At the end of the day, your wedding day is your day. It is important to remember this fact throughout the planning process. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of it all and lose sight of why you’re doing all the work you’re doing. Having a wedding planner or coordinator can make all the difference in the world. Happy planning!

Planner or No Planner? Part 1

Newly engaged couples often debate the decision to hire a wedding planner or coordinator. The most common concern is that it’s an added expense to what can, sometimes, be an overwhelming budget. But, as with any expense or purchase, consider the overall value of employing these experts. A good and experienced planner can enhance your vision and make your day better than you ever thought possible. This week we will discuss the various pros and cons of hiring a planner or coordinator.

Con - Planners are too expensive.

Pro – This is the most common concern for engaged couples. They worry that the cost of a planner/coordinator will make the wedding even more expensive. The reality is that planners add a great deal of value to the overall cost of your wedding.

Here's how:

•Most wedding and event planners have different packages that they can cater to fit your specific needs.

•Many planners will work with your budget and price their services accordingly.

•The input a planner has to the overall planning and coordinating process will, often, save you money in the long run. From negotiating contracts to facility communications, planners often have the know-how and connections to get more for your money.

Con - We’re a do-it-yourself couple. We can make this happen on our own.

Pro - There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do it yourself. But keep in mind, many of you are going into this project for the first time. Guidance is not a bad thing.

Also, you can do the planning yourselves and hire a coordinator to make sure your day happens as planned. It’s not a good idea to roll out your aisle runner or coordinate the bridal party when you’re supposed to be making your entrance. You will need someone to oversee everything while you enjoy this very important day in your lives.

To be continued…
