Meet TPD's Boomie Dimas of A Gracious Affair

2009-04-29

BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Hello there. My name is Bunmi (Boomie) Dimas. I am a Network Engineer by day and a wedding planner at night, if I may say so. I am hoping that one day that’s all that I do. I love anything that has to do with planning events, and weddings in particular. As some of you might know already, I am a newlywed. I have a lot of information to share about my wedding. Hopefully my wedding can be featured as a wedding of the month… lol! Eileen and AJ what do you ladies think?

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE WEDDING BUSINESS?
I have been in the wedding planning business for the past 5years and it’s getting more interesting everyday. I look forward to many more years by God’s grace.

WHATS IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF PLANNING/COORDINATING OR DESIGNING AN EVENT?
Hmmmm… That’s really a tough one to say but I would say meeting the couple for the first time and listening to all the ideas they want incorporated into the wedding day (especially those who have spent time online and have loads of magazines at their first meeting – LOL)

DESCRIBE A TYPICAL BRIDE AND GROOM ON THEIR WEDDING DAY.
A typical bride is excited and, at the same time, nervous. Now, I am talking from experience. The bride is praying and hoping that all the planning over the past year or so comes together. The groom, on the other hand, is relaxed and is not sure what the fuss is all about. He is just ready to say I do and whisk his bride away… Go on guys….

TELL US ABOUT A MEMORABLE WEDDING EVENT.
Wow… Lord have mercy! It‘s one of those days I will never forget. We had planned the wedding for the past year only to experience a city power outage. We were hoping that power would be restored before the wedding reception, only to receive a call from the reception manager that it looked like power would not be restored and that we could not use the hall. What!!!! We had the table linens, silverware and lighting done and you tell me to look for a new hall 4 hours before the reception.

Anyway, you cannot imagine what was going on in my mind and of those working with me. I have never prayed so hard. But I saw the Word, “Let there be light” come into action. Yes, the light was restored 15 minutes before the reception was supposed to start. If you need the full story send me an email at 2plannersandadesigner@gmail.com..... Oh so you know, the bride and groom knew nothing about this, until after the reception. They were in the church the whole time getting married. The church had no power outage. Praise God!!!!

FAVORITE COLOR?
I’m not sure I have a favorite color. I work more with a color combination. For now, I would say I am partial to aqua and red. Those who know me know why. Yeah, I am being partial….

ADVICE TO THE NEWLY WED?
Relax and get to know each other daily. The wedding is just less than a day, its not even a day. Invest more in the marriage than the wedding. That is not to say have a crappy wedding. No matter what your budget is, a wedding is doable. Please don’t go asking for a platinum wedding when you can’t afford it. Please ladies! Be real about what your budget is when you meet with your planner. Enough said…..More to come on that as a topic to be discussed on the blog.
It’s a new place, an adventure. You both have never been there. Be patient with each other. Pray, laugh, talk and take it one step at a time. If it is your second time, what an opportunity to start all over and have a blast!

I hope to get to know you and hopefully meet some of you in the course of blogging. If there is anything pertaining to wedding planning and you think we can help, please do no hesitate to contact us via email. We would love to hear from you.

Happy wedding planning and congrats!

So, you're engaged, what next?

2009-04-27

If you love weddings like we do, you know that the most awesome sight is to see ALL the ideas that you have worked so hard to implement, come together flawlessly. Indeed it is pure beauty at its best. But let's not run ahead of ourselves.

How about those of you who have just recently realized you have a wedding to plan? We have cleverly titled this blog entry “So You’re Engaged, What Next”?

Hmmmm. Interesting question isn’t it? Just to imagine that within a 24 hour-time frame you can go from totally single and ready to mingle, to got the ring and about to be wed. WOW! Then come the barrage of questions, making you realize that you should have had these things thought out already. “When will it be?”, “Where are you having it?”, “Indoor or Outdoor?”, “Traditional or Modern?” “White or Ivory?”, “Plated or Buffet?” And it goes on and on and on. Take a deep breath, count to 10 and let’s start all over. So you’re engaged, what next?

First, CONGRATULATIONS! Enjoy your moment. It is a wonderful, joyous thing that that special man would choose you to be his ship mate, his queen-to-be. And for you brothers, isn’t it a relief that she actually said “Yes”. LOL. Bask in your moment. You deserve it.

Second, call your family and closest friends and share your good news. Good news is infectious. It just has a way of uplifting the spirit and encouraging the soul. You’ll be surprised how many people are TRULY happy for you.

Third, GET TO PLANNING!!!!! Your wedding is going to be the single most amazing, spectacular, magnificent day of your life. NO DETAIL must be left to chance. Let your imagination run wild! If you can THINK it, then it CAN be done. But watch out now, no one wants a bride GONE wild in their camp. LOL. Moderation should still be the name of the game. Also planning your wedding should be FUN! If it ain’t fun, then something is WRONG. We hope this helps all you goo-goo eyed, lovey dovey, about to step into marital bliss couples out there.

As we sign off, we want to ask one more question: How long after you get engaged should you expect to walk down the aisle? Let this be our discussion for the week.

Let us hear your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by!
